How it works

  1. Drop your JPG files or a folder.
  2. PNG is already selected, and there is no quality to set.
  3. Apply it and download a PNG, or a ZIP for several images.

What converting to PNG does and does not do

A PNG copy stops any further loss: you can save it again and again without new compression artifacts, unlike a JPG. It cannot restore what the JPG already lost, so the image will not look sharper than the original.

It will not make the background transparent

JPG files have no transparency, so a white background stays white in the PNG. Converting only changes the format. Removing a background is a separate job, done in an editor.

Expect heavier files

A photo saved as PNG is usually several times heavier than the JPG. Keep the JPG for sharing, and use the PNG when a template, a design tool or an editing step calls for it.

Questions

Does converting to PNG improve quality?

No. It preserves the image as it is now and prevents further loss, but it cannot bring back detail.

Why is the PNG so much bigger?

PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression, which takes much more space for photos. This is expected.

Can I convert many JPG files at once?

Yes. Drop several files or a whole folder. Sub-folders are kept in the output. Free batches hold up to 10 images.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The image is decoded and processed by your browser, on your device. FolderPix has no upload endpoint at all, and the site tells browsers to refuse connections to other servers. You can check it in the Network tab of your browser’s developer tools, or by going offline once the page has loaded.
